Womens who changed the definition of Odia Woman | Business Woman/ Lady Entrepreneurs of Odisha.

Once upon a time, women and girls were thought to be less important than the men and boys, but those days are gone. One can easily find a successful women in every corner of the world from the CEO who runs a Fortune 500 company to the housewife who raises her children and heads her household. 

But nowadays womens across the world has shown their interest in this cumbersome world of entrepreneurship. Hence you can find a lot of Successful  Business Womens in our Country, like Indu Jain, Vandana Luthra, Ekta Kapoor and Aditi Gupta but what about Odisha ?? Does our state Odisha has any Woman Entrepreneur ??  Let's find out !!

1. Susmita Mohanty | Earth2orbit

Susmita Mohanty is a space entrepreneur and spaceship designer. She is the co- founder and CEO of EARTH2ORBIT, India’s first private space start-up. She wants India to become a global player and capture a significant chunk of the 300+ billion dollar annual [commercial] space business. Educated in India, France and Sweden, Susmita holds multiple degrees. She has a Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering from Gujarat University and a Master's in Industrial Design from the National Institute of Design in Ahmedabad . She has a Master's in Space Studies from the International Space University in Strasbourg (France) and a PhD in Aerospace Architecture from the Chalmers University of Technology (Sweden).

She has co- founded and led two other companies, MOONFRONT in San Francisco (2001-2007) and LIQUIFER in Vienna (2004-ongoing). She is the only entrepreneur in the world who has started space companies on three different continents. In 2017, she was featured on the cover of Fortune Magazine.

2.Richa Kar | Zivame

Richa is the founder of India's first online lingerie store called Zivame. Her journey of venturing into Zivame is an attempt to provide a solution to the discomfort around lingerie shopping. Her attempt to bring about a change in the social construct and introduce online retailing of lingerie has been undoubtedly successful and she truly defines the new age woman entrepreneur in India.

She completed her engineering from BITS Pilani (2002) and after having worked briefly in the IT industry she acquired Masters’ degree from Narsee Monji Institute of Management Studies in 2007.

3.Jayashree Mohanty| Luminous Infoways

Co-founder and President of Luminous Infoways Pvt. Ltd. Luminous Infoways was started back in 2001, when the word startup has no existence. Jayashree started this software company along with her life partner Mr.Tanmay Mohanty.Ultimately with her company she broke all those stereotypes that a simple Odia girl may have. She is the live example of woman empowerment. Now her company is delivering IT solutions and services to over 1000 customers or companies. She also won the Leading Lady Entrepreneur 2015 STPI Exports award and was recently recognised for her promotion of women empowerment in the MSME segment. 

4.Sukirti Patnaik| Indulge 

A chain of beauty and wellness centres in Odisha like state may not be an easy challenge for a woman. But Sukirti proved it wrong. She is the founder of Indulge, a beauty and wellness chain based in Odisha. Sukirti started Indulge Salon out of the need to provide a world class beauty service in a professional environment at the right price. She is having an electronics engineering degree with special hands on experience in fashion and beauty industry.The numerous state, national and international awards received by Sukirti and Indulge are a testimony to the respect developed over the years. Currently she is having more than 10 Indulge beauty outlets in Odisha and expecting to achieve 100th salon in the next couple of years.

5. Iti Samanta | Kadambini Media

The woman who changed the face of monthly magazine in Odisha, nevertheless she is an editor,film producer, publisher and a social worker. She has authored several books and achieved so many prestigious awards. She shouldered the responsibility as the Director of Kadambini Magazine and spread the Art, Culture, Literature and Cinema through it. To begin with, she edited the family magazine, 'The Kadambini' which came out in the year 2000. 'The Kadambini' gave a new dimension to Odia magazines and created a history in Odia magazine world. In addition to editing, writing she managed to take out time for research. She did her Ph.D. in literature from Visva-Bharati Central University, Shantiniketan. She was also awarded as a fellow-scholar in literature from the Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India. She did not limit her activities in family magazine only. She also brought out 'The Kunikatha', a monthly magazine exclusively for children and involve herself in different social activities.
