5 Odia IPS officers who are making Odisha proud
Here are five brave, dedicated and heroic IPS Officers
from Odisha who have made us extremely proud and done extraordinary work for
the country.
Arup Patnaik
Arup Patnaik was born in September 8, 1955 at
Bhubaneswar. He was the 36th Police Commissioner of Mumbai. He is revered as
one of the bravest, magnificent and respected IPS officers of the Maharashtra
cadre. He is a recipient of the President's Police Medal for Distinguished
Service in 2003 and the Indian Police Medal for meritorious services in 1994. Mr.
Patnaik is the first and only Odia IPS officer to hold the post of Police
Commissioner of Mumbai. During his stint as the Police Commissioner, Patnaik
clamped down on various illegal establishments. The media had given Patnaik the
title of "Bar Buster". In the 2004 action
movie "Aan: Men at Work"", Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar
essayed the role of DCP "Hari Om Patnaik" which is a combination of
his father's first name (Rajiv Hari Om Bhatia) and that of Patnaik (who holds
him in high regard) and He got retired in September 30, 2015.

Basant Rath
Basant Rath is a 2000-batch IPS officer and an alumnus of
the famous JNU. He is best known for his straightforwardness on social
networking sites like Facebook and microblogging site Twitter. Not just he is
active in social media but what he does in his practical life is really
spectacular. Once he said that “I am Basant Rath and I do what I do”, just
imagine the zealous of Basant Rath towards his duty. He becomes a role-model
for the youth of India and specifically for the kashmiris. Mr. Rath assumed the charge as the IGP
(Traffic) in Jammu & Kashmir. Following his promotion, he landed in a
series of controversies for his style of action directed at everyone who
refuses to wear helmets and whom he termed as politically well-connected
individuals. Apart from his love for work, his love for Kashmir is reflected in
his dazzling work of poetry. You can read those poems in social media too.
Swayam Prakash Pani
Odisha IPS officer of 2000-batch, Swayam Prakash Pani was
appointed as the Inspector General of Police (IG), Kashmir Range becoming the
youngest to hold the post so far. During his tenure as
